- In Houston we can buy the new Courier I_Modem *External* for something
- in the real LOW $500s from our "value added reseller", so the $450
- number sounds a trifle on the high side, depending of course on what
- your trade-in actually consists of. However, I'm sure our VAR cuts
- us a really good deal since we average $2.5 megabucks a year with
- them. USR is offering Courier I_Modem SYSOP deals on their BBS for
- approx. $450.
-
- For a tradein deal, $450 plus an old wide-bodied Courier 9600 or 14400
- or even the 16.8 daughterboard upgradeable might not be such a bad
- offer. On the other hand, $450 plus your "V.Everything" Courier in
- trade sounds rather lop-sided to me.
-
- It will be interesting to see what (if anything) USR decides to do
- about a "cross-architecture" tradein (analog for digital).
-
- People familiar with the new I_Modem know this, but for others it
- might be worth mentioning that the Courier I_Modem =REQUIRES= an
- ISDN digital line; you cannot attach it to a conventional phone line
- and just use the analog portion of the modem while deciding whether or
- not to order ISDN service. Without ISDN service, the I_modem is
- nothing more than an expensive (albeit nice-looking) paperweight.
