  23. In Houston we can buy the new Courier I_Modem *External* for something
  24. in the real LOW $500s from our "value added reseller", so the $450
  25. number sounds a trifle on the high side, depending of course on what
  26. your trade-in actually consists of.   However, I'm sure our VAR cuts 
  27. us a really good deal since we average $2.5 megabucks a year with
  28. them.  USR is offering Courier I_Modem SYSOP deals on their BBS for
  29. approx. $450.

  31. For a tradein deal, $450 plus an old wide-bodied Courier 9600 or 14400
  32. or even the 16.8 daughterboard upgradeable might not be such a bad
  33. offer.  On the other hand, $450 plus your "V.Everything" Courier in
  34. trade sounds rather lop-sided to me.

  36. It will be interesting to see what (if anything) USR decides to do
  37. about a "cross-architecture" tradein (analog for digital).

  39. People familiar with the new I_Modem know this, but for others it
  40. might be worth mentioning that the Courier I_Modem  =REQUIRES=  an
  41. ISDN digital line;  you cannot attach it to a conventional phone line
  42. and just use the analog portion of the modem while deciding whether or
  43. not to order ISDN service. Without ISDN service, the I_modem is
  44. nothing more than an expensive (albeit nice-looking) paperweight.
